Ripping music and films illegal again after High Court overturns new law

BBC: It's now illegal - again - to copy CDs or DVDs you've bought to put onto your MP3 player, your computer or other devices. The government had introduced a new law in October last year meaning it was legal to transfer music into your home library.

Don't people ignore these types of law?

Crazyglues3259d ago

I have one law and it's on everything I buy, if I bought it, it's mine, so if I want to rip it, sit on it, p on it, break it, crack it, or put it up for sale, that's my right.... Period..

Anything else is just stupid and will not be followed.

It's been this way since god knows how long, I'm not about to follow new stupid laws being made up by idiots.

As much as I wanna agree with you, that is not the cause. When you purchase any form of media you DO NOT own it. You are licencing it. The medias original creator/s own it because he/she/they made it. All you are doing is purchasing it for personal use. You don't own any media.

i'm afraid that this would mean that ripping cd will be disabled in mp3 software such as iTunes and WMPlayer

The_Blue3259d ago

Thought this was an American Law.

NarooN3259d ago

No. Over here it's illegal to share copies of your content (doesn't stop anyone from doing it obviously lol.) You can make backups of your purchased content no prob.

F* them.. I'm going to copy/transfer all the CD's and DVD's that I bought with my hard-earned money as much as I like to any of my gadgets.

I just don't see any common sense with this law.

sonicwrecks3258d ago

Neither did the Government actually. It was their law that finally actually said "this is ok" that got overturned. Hopefully they will appeal the appeal.

Oh good, it's the UK. Had me worried there.

This only increases pirating. Why should I be forced to buy a CD version of a song AND the digital version?

nirwanda3259d ago

And a poorer quality digital version usually too.
